The Alibi is an amazing local bar in Kingston, featuring Ontario craft beer and YGK’s wildest cocktail menu. A cosy spot that opens as a cafe in the morning and transforms into a hot bar at night, The Alibi is a regular stop for upper year and Grad students, younger professionals. Tuesday is games night, Wednesday is a very popular trivia night and Thursday is when music lives!
Thursday night is Live @ the Alibi with music starting most Thursdays at 8pm. This fall our focus is mostly on emerging artists — names you have probably never seen or heard but who are laying all out there. We occasionally bring in seasoned musicians playing bar room favourites, mostly rock, celtic rock, folk rock, Americana, some blues and who knows what the hell else! Lot’s of room for original songs but always lots of covers that you know and love.
Our emerging artist program is designed to get newer performers on their feet, performing for an hour — maybe their first professional gig — so that they can get some experience and learn the ropes. We pay them (not much) but it is a step up from open mic or playing for your roommates.
One other thing about our approach to music…we believe in paying musicians. None of this play for your dinner crap or eat what you kill. We pay a guarantee, no taking a piece of the door, no passing the hat. We want musicians to promote their shows and then to put it all out there. Have fun, make music.
We make money by selling beer and cocktails in a great space where friends can come together to have fun.
NOTE: when our schedule says OPEN LATE, that usually means we look around the room at 1am and decide whether to stay open. If its busy we stay open as long as we are allowed!
