Low Country Hill is Paul Hogeterp’s ambitious songwriting project, recorded at Dave King’s barn-turned-studio on the outskirts of Hamilton, Ontario. A brilliant cast of friends, family and musical guests (including Pat Sansone from Wilco and Bill Dillon who has worked with Joni Mitchell, Peter Gabriel, and Robbie Robertson) came together to shape a record with inviting sonic architecture and old-fashioned soul. Low Country Hill was a Hamilton regional finalist in CBC Searchlight 2015 and a 2015 Hamilton Music Awards nominee in the Roots/solo category.
Some thoughts about Low Country Hill from music bloggers:
Low Country Hill…evoke(s) comparisons to such stalwarts as Hey Rosetta and Bon Iver, but yet really does not sound particularly like either. The tracks stand on their own as testaments to superlative songwriting and an album produced to showcase haunting, beautiful music. -Floorshime Zipper Boots
Truly a product of its environment, Low Country Hill is a provocative experimentation in sound and shape…it features sonic sculptures with a sense of experimentation but grounded with heart and soul, and evokes the subdued comforts of a warm abode amidst a cold, punishing but beautiful landscape. -Kent Heberling, Those Who Dig
